Frequently Asked Questions

Q: WHEN DOES THE RECREATIONAL SEASON START AND END?

A: Fall 2025 Recreational Soccer is 8 weeks long running straight from September 6th - October 25th

U3-U5 player $75 Early bird (7/31) - $90 after 7/31

U6-U17 player $90 Early bird (7/31) - $110 after 7/31

Q: WHEN AND WHERE ARE GAMES?

A: Games are Saturdays only, there can be exceptions due to scheduled town events where games may need to be held on a Sunday. This will be communicated at the start of the season. Games start typically at either 8:30-9:00am, 10:30am or 12:00pm. View our Calendar of Events for information on when the game schedule will be published. All recreational games are played at the EWG Soccer Complex located on Rte. 102 in West Greenwich Click for directions.

Q: WHEN WILL WE BE CONTACTED ABOUT THE TEAM MY CHILD WILL PLAY ON?

A: The teams will be formed after registration closes in early March (Spring) or mid August (Fall). We then need to recruit coaches. Once we have coaches for every team, the coaches will receive their team roster. You should expect a call shortly after our Coaches' Meeting 1-2 weeks before the season starts. If you have not heard by the week before opening day, you can email the registrar to inquire.

Coaches will not receive their roster and be able to contact their teams until they have completed their coaching requirements

View our Calendar of Events for more detailed information

Q: WHAT AGE GROUP IS MY CHILD?

A: This year we are doing things a little bit different in the recreational league. We are aligning our selves to the changes being made by US Soccer and moving to the school year matrix rather than the birth year matrix.

U6 - Kindergaren
U7/U8 - 1st and 2nd Grade
U9/U10 - 3rd and 4th Grade
U11/U12 - 5th and 6th Grade
U13/U14 - 7th and 8th Grade
U15-U18 - 9th - 12th Grade

Q: CAN MY SON OR DAUGHTER PLAY IN AN AGE LEVEL HIGHER OR LOWER?

A: Players are strongly encouraged to participate at their proper age level. In limited circumstances upon request, after consultation by the Executive Board, players may be granted permission to play in a higher age group, but never a lower.

Q: WE DON'T LIVE IN EXETER OR WEST GREENWICH, CAN MY CHILD STILL PLAY FOR EWG SOCCER?

A: Yes!  Anyone from any town can play for EWGYSA

Q: CAN MY CHILD REQUEST TO PLAY ON THE SAME TEAM AS THEIR FRIENDS TO FACILITATE CAR POOLING?

A: When you are registering your child, please submit any requests in the comments section. But please understand that fulfilling requests is secondary to establishing balanced teams. Although requests are taken into consideration, the program has no obligation to fulfill any particular request and makes no promise in that regard. Of course, a parent who coaches will have their own child on the team, and siblings who qualify to play in the same age group will be placed together (unless specifically requested otherwise). Please note that at ages U10 and up, the program’s obligation is to assemble balanced teams for everyone's enjoyment.

Q: CAN I REQUEST A COACH THAT MY CHILD HAD PREVIOUSLY?

A: Feel free to submit any requests in the comments section when registering, but please understand that fulfilling requests is secondary to establishing balanced teams. Although requests are taken into consideration, the program has no obligation to fulfill any particular request and makes no promise in that regard. Of course, a parent who coaches will have their own child on the team, and siblings who qualify to play in the same age group will be placed together (unless specifically requested otherwise). Please note that at ages U10 and up, the program’s obligation to assemble balanced teams is particularly paramount, and, accordingly, grouping teams in accord with family requests secondary.

Q: HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED?

A: After the registration period ends, the age group lists are compiled and the Executive Board will place players on teams according to player rating, parent requests, siblings, parent coach etc.  Again, the program’s obligation to assemble balanced teams is particularly paramount, and, accordingly, grouping teams in accord with family requests secondary.

Q: I WOULD LIKE TO HELP OUT AT THE FIELD ON GAME DAYS, WHO DO I CONTACT?

A: We are ALWAYS looking for volunteers! All of our Executive Board members have children playing as well and many don’t get to see them play because we’re short of help.  Please contact our President at president@ewgsoccer.org to inquire on how you can help. Our organization runs by 100% volunteer power and your help is greatly appreciated!

Q: WHERE CAN I FIND OUT INFORMATION ABOUT EWG SOCCER’S DEVELOPMENTAL/COMPETITIVE SOCCER PROGRAM?

A: You can contact our Competitive Director  or check out the info on the  Competitive Page.

Q: MY CHILD WOULD LIKE TO TRY OUT FOR THE COMPETITIVE/DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM. WHEN ARE TRYOUTS?

A: Tryouts for our Strikers Developmental/Competitive teams will be in mid-June and will be announced HERE and on Facebook.

Q: I AM THINKING ABOUT VOLUNTEERING TO COACH?

A: EWG Soccer is a volunteer organization, and the  program cannot be maintained without parent volunteers. In addition to  coaches and assistant coaches. the program routinely requires many others  willing to lend assistance. Prior soccer experience is not required.   Participating as a youth sports volunteer is a valuable and rewarding endeavor. Contact any Executive Board member for additional information or CLICK HERE.

Q: I WOULD LIKE TO BE A SPONSOR AND HAVE A SIGN AT THE FIELD. WHERE DO I FIND THAT INFORMATION?

A: Please go to our SPONSORS Page page on our website for all of the info.

Q: WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS THAT AREN’T ANSWERED ABOVE?

A:The best way to have your questions answered is to email president@ewgsoccer.org directly.
