EWG Soccer lost one of its own when David D’Antuono passed away suddenly on October 17th. He leaves behind a wife, Jill, and two children, Anthony and Andrea, who both play for our U19 Strikers teams. Dave served as a board member of the Association for many years, serving in many positions including that of President from 2003-2007. Since leaving the board, he has continued to serve both as a Strikers coach and as one of the regulars who maintain the field each week. Service to the community was important to Dave who had also found time to be the Cubmaster for the WG Cub Scouts and was presently serving as the Scoutmaster for the WG Boy Scouts. His wonderful family shares his commitment to service. Jill served as our Competitive Coordinator for two years and regularly helps out wherever she’s needed. A high school sophomore, Tony, as he’s called now, usually accompanied his dad to help set up the fields and, before going off to start college this fall, Andrea was a regular in the concession stand. Our Association would not be what it is today without Dave and his family’s many contributions. We will be observing a moment of silence Saturday morning, October 24th, and flying the flags at half-staff for the remainder of the fall season to honor the memory of a fellow member, tireless volunteer and great friend. Below is a picture of Dave with the EWGYSA Strikers U19 Girls team he helped coach to the SuperLiga Championship last spring. (His daughter, Andrea, is wearing the tie-dye shirt in the center)
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, 213 Broadway, Norwich, Ct. Interment will take place in St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston, R.I. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to |
